Amtrak permits a range of sports equipment onboard, including balls, bats, cleats, fishing poles, helmets, pads, rackets, roller blades, skate boards and hockey and lacrosse sticks.
Sports gear can be carried on the train as long as the item is not considered a weapon or hazardous. The item must also weigh 50 pounds or less, with dimensions up to 28″ x 22″ x 14″. Bigger than that, you’ll need to check it. You must also pay $20 per checked item if it exceeds 50 pounds or 75 linear inches.
Sports equipment that is not rendered dangerous may replace a piece of baggage and be checked or allowed onboard free of charge.
