Located on Whiteface Mountain, the Whiteface Cloudsplitter is like getting bird’s eye view in flight!
One-of-a-Kind Views
The Cloudsplitter is an eight-passenger gondola that carries you from the Main Base Lodge to the top of Little Whiteface in fifteen minutes. You’ll soar over streams, ski trails, steep rock faces and thick forests to experience the beauty of the Adirondacks in an entirely new way. During your ride, you will also see Lake Placid and its namesake village, Lake Champlain, and the tallest peaks in New York State. Additionally, you’ll spot the ski jumps and the Ausable River. At the top, an observation deck and picnic area await you.
At the base of Whiteface Mountain, stop in before or after your gondola ride to the Cloudspin Bar & Grill for pub-style fare. The Whiteface Cloudsplitter and many other activities are free with an Olympic Sites Passport.
Before Your Visit
Before heading to the Whiteface Cloudsplitter, be sure to check the Updates section of their website here. During the winter season, there may occur days that the Cloudsplitter is open only to skiers and riders due to weather conditions, in which case foot passengers are not allowed admittance. This information is always listed under Alerts on the Conditions page as these closures occur during the winter season.
“It was beautiful and spectacular view. Made you feel like you had the mountain to yourself. The guy working the info desk was very helpful and friendly, as were the folks running the lift. I would go on this ride again!”
