The Toronto Island Park is a great place to spend the day enjoying family time and soaking in the views of Toronto, separated from the city.
The park is comprised of several islands, all accessible by a ferry ride. Each island has different things to offer to the public.
All of the islands are home to bike trails, picnic areas and places to birdwatch and fish. Each island though, has a few unique things that make them attractive to visitors.
Centre Island is home to a small farm with animals and a splash pad for children to run through. Olympic Island is within walking distance from Centre Island and is home to Centreville Amusement Park.
Centre Island is also the stop if patrons decide to go to Franklin’s Children’s Garden. The garden is an interactive experience that teaches kids how to plant and take care of their plants. There is also an amphitheater for storytelling and shows and a trail that winds through the woods and meadows that take guests to the highest point on the islands.
Ward’s Island has a playground, baseball diamond and ping pong table. Ward, Centre and Olympic Islands are the most ideal for families with children.
Algonquin Island is a fifteen minute walk from the ferry landing at Ward’s Island. It is a great place to see the Toronto skyline. The Western side of the island is an Environmentally Significant Area, so it is important to respect the nature and only take photos, not souvenirs.
Hanlan’s Point holds the first summer cottages built on the islands, and is a great place to watch the sunset. It also has a playground, a pond and two beaches.
Tickets for the ferry to the islands must be purchased online. The ferry runs from different times for each island, click here to see the times for each island.
“Everything from the boat ride to the island, the food and most importantly the surroundings were so worth it. Enjoyed myself and it wasn’t too busy. We are planning to go back.”
