The Amsterdam sits a short drive from the Amtrak Station in Rhinebeck and serves elevated farm-to-table fare alongside wonderful craft cocktails. It maintains an allure with dishes that include duck and pork pâté, salmon rillettes, and green curry steamed mussels.
The History
In Spring 2017, Howard Jacobs opened The Amsterdam in the heart of Rhinebeck simply because he had a strong love for good food blended with exceptional hospitality. He purchased the restaurant space in early 2014 – a landmark 1798 Dutch Colonial – and knew that one day his dream would come to fruition.
Zachary Lovenguth is the head chef – a Farm-To-Table and Hospitality Management student from The Culinary Institute of America. Zach has an extensive repertoire and was chef of many notable restaurants before landing at The Amsterdam. He looks for new and exciting ways to introduce fresh and unique ingredients to The Amsterdam’s menu.
Director of Operations, Fletcher Tingle III, or Fletch as he’s become known, is also a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. A trained sommelier from St. Helena, California, Fletch brings a love and knowledge for worldly wines, spirits, and mixology to the table.
The Amsterdam strives to work as closely with community farms as possible in order to provide the freshest and highest quality ingredients to its diners. This also helps to highlight the bounty of the Hudson Valley through each season.
The Vibe at The Amsterdam
The restaurant’s main level features an oversized bar and a stunning dining room with high ceilings and an open kitchen that welcomes onlookers. Beyond the dining room, a backyard reveals a large dining patio and pergola, vintage picnic tables for more casual dining, a bocce court and a fire pit circled with cozy chairs. The second level is home to a lounge area and a large private dining room that is completely customizable for private events from 12-40+ guests.
“What a great addition to the Rhinebeck food scene. We’ve been to the Amsterdam several times and have consistently enjoyed the food. Chef Sara is an outstanding, talented chef. The space is beautiful and during the winter very warm and inviting, even if you are just having a drink and appetizers at the bar. “
