History at the Maid of the Mist
Since 1846, the Maid of the Mist has given tens of millions of people tours of the Niagara Falls. Over the years, famous people from across the globe have come to enjoy the unique ride that the Maid of the Mist offers, including Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana of Wales, to U.S. Presidents Jimmy Carter and Theodore Roosevelt. Since 1846 there have been seven Maid of the Mist boats. Maid of the Mist VII is still active and has been since 1997. The first Maid of the Mist had a capacity of 100 passengers. The current Maid of the Mist now holds 600 passengers.
