History
In 1946 the New Haven Restaurant Institute was opened, Frances Roth was focused on establishing a school that would become “the culinary center of the nation.” This was the first and the only school in the United States of it’s kind and had enrolled 50 students. Over time the institute was expanding at a rapid pace, it was renamed, rebranded and eventually relocated to the Hudson Valley. The Culinary Institute of America kept expanding and innovating to be at the forefront of culinary education. They became the world’s premier culinary college and continually work to improve.
Educational Offerings
The Culinary Institute of America has continually worked to add educational opportunities to enrolled students. In 2008 it had opened a third location in San Antonio to add to the current Napa Valley and Hudson Valley locations. Since they have added bachelor’s degree for various studies such as; Culinary science, applied food studies, and hospitality management.
Attractions
The Culinary Institute of America offers public tours for visitors. The tours are given by current students while school is in session. They are available Monday – Friday at 4 p.m. with an extra Monday tour at 10 a.m. Reservations are required and tours cost $6 per person.

The Culinary Institute of America has five restaurants in their Hyde Park location, they are American Bounty Restaurant, the Bocuse Restaurant, Post Road Brew House, Ristorante Caterina de’ Medici & Al Forno Trattoria, and the Apple Pie Bakery Café. They all feature different experiences, the American Bounty Restaurant that features products of the Hudson Valley, and the Bocuse Restaurant that brings France to the Hudson Valley with its classic French cuisine paired with the French wines. Visit the CIA as you can see visit the school that teaches future world-renowned chefs.
Various events are hosted throughout the year such as A Moveable Feast. This event will take guests to three of the award-winning restaurants in one night. Each restaurant will feature a course that reflects their cooking style and culinary focus. This will take place Saturday, June 2, 2018, at 5 p.m. for $150 prepaid, all-inclusive.
