The Cooperstown Beverage Trail is a great place to see the village aside from learning about baseball.
Cooperstown is the former hops-growing capital of North America, long before the game of baseball was invented. There is no better way to explore what it has to offer and to step back into history than to spend the day drinking along the Beverage Trail.
Tastings and tours travel along a 37-mile route through the village’s breweries, wineries, a distillery and a historic cider mill.
At its origin, the Cooperstown Beverage Trail had four registered establishments. Today, that number has risen to seven, including Bear Pond Winery, Cooperstown Brewing Company, Brewery Ommegang, Rustic Ridge Winery, Cooperstown Distillery, Pail Shop Vineyards and Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard. Now, the trail pulls in about 20,000 visitors a year.
Not only is the trail a great way to try some great drinks, but it’s also a great way to find new restaurants to eat at and explore the surrounding towns like Fly Creek, Milford and Oneonta.
The trail also has special offers that each of the companies offer. These offers range from free coasters, stickers, keychains, wine stoppers and corkscrews. Patrons can also play a little scavenger hunt style game to get a free surprise gift. If you collect seven stamps (one from each place) and cash in, you win.
The tours allow for people to try new drinks they might have never thought to do otherwise. They also have the opportunity to see how some of these wines and beers are made and walk through specialty shops that some of the breweries and wineries have.
The Cooperstown Beverage Trail’s website advises guests who plan to go on the tour to plan ahead. That means doing research to see whether or not places require reservations, limitations in group size and what amenities each place has.
“Great place to stop when visiting Cooperstown. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable on their products.”
