Ausable Chasm

As the Adirondack Mountains' staple adventure site for the last 150 years, Ausable Chasm offers tubing, rafting, rock climbing and hiking, plus breathtaking views to boot.

Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime at Ausable Chasm, where you can raft down the “Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks”—a two-mile sandstone gorge traversed by the Ausable River! The chasm also offers tubing, rock climbing, mountain biking, walking trails and a museum. In the winter, view the impressive chasm blanketed in snow and the gigantic icicles that tower 150′ above the river, or descend into the depths of the chasm to explore the rock and ice formations along the popular Inner Sanctum Trail.

At Ausable Chasm, visitors can choose between two unique adventures through the Classic Tour and the Premium Package. On the Classic Tour, walk along the winding scenic nature trails, strolling past Rainbow Falls, Elephant’s Head, Column Rock, Hyde’s Cave and the Mystic Gorge along the way, before descending hundreds of feet to walk along the chasm’s natural stone walkways. After the trip, board a guided raft and relax as you float through the narrowest and deepest part of the chasm. For an extra rush, select the Premium Package and get everything the Classic Tour offers plus access to the Adventure Trail, a unique, family-friendly experience consisting of cable bridges, a net climb and edge-walks that run through the upper region of the chasm. Looking for a more leisurely stroll? Visitors can opt for well-maintained, self-guided walking and hiking trails, which range from half to two miles long.

As one of the country’s oldest attractions, Ausable Chasm has thrilled and amazed all who have come to explore its natural beauty since 1870. Like the cavern walls that surround it, the chasm has developed a layered history over the years filled with adventures and disasters, and the world can’t get enough of it: over 10 million people have travelled to the Adirondack’s to witness this uniquely-carved, vertical-walled canyon made of 500 million-year-old rock, one of nature’s greatest marvels.

The Ausable Chasm is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Reservations are not required for tours and attractions, but visitors can view package rates here: https://www.ausablechasm.com/Admission/day-rates.

“The view is absolutely amazing, especially if you have the opportunity to go on a guided raft ride tour. It’s also calming and relaxing to take a walk through the trails and really enjoy nature.”
