NYS Chinese Lantern Festival (discontinued)
NYS Chinese Lantern Festival: A Celebration of Light
The Chinese Lantern Festival brings color, fun and entertainment back to New York.
Light up your night! From May 25 to July 1, the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse will be transformed into the Chinese Lantern Festival. Guests can walk along a path of traditional Chinese lantern displays for as long as a mile. The lanterns are made by artisans from Sichuan, China and take months to assemble due to the hundreds of parts and thousands of LED lights. This year’s festival will include more than 30 all new lantern displays. The lanterns are built into baby pandas, a three-story Chinese palace pagoda, Chinese dragons and more. This year’s event will include flowers, cranes, butterflies and archways made of lanterns.
The festival also offers daily entertainment that focuses on Chinese culture. There will be two 30 minute shows that feature dancers, musicians, acrobats and face-changers. Entertainment also includes jugglers, plate spinning, hula hoop performers and contortionists. You can find different food vendors offering both delicious Chinese and New York State bites throughout the weeks.
Tickets for the event vary by age. Adults can buy tickets at $15.50 online and $16 at the gate. Senior citizen tickets are $14 online and $14.50 at the gate. Children between the ages of 5 and 16 can receive tickets for $12.50 online and $14 at the gate. Children under 5 years of age can enter the festival for free.
