    What are the Empire State Winter Games?

    The Empire State Winter Games is a community-driven event that celebrates the athletes across the Northeast set in the incredible Adirondacks. Competitors from ages 8 -80 take part in three days of competition in 25 winter sports. 

    The ESWG includes events in ski jumping, speed skating, bobsledding, alpine skiing, hockey, cross country, curling, figure skating, freestyle moguls, ski orienteering, sled hockey, biathlon, luge, skeleton, snowshoe, ski and snowboard cross, winter bike, and the winter triathlon.

    What to Expect at Empire State Winter Games

    Athletes of all ages and abilities are invited to compete at the Games. Athletes from New York, Canada, and the rest of the country come to compete. 

    All events of the Empire State Winter Games are free to watch and do not require tickets. A full spectator’s guide will be released a month before the Games.

    The 700-mile Torch Relay is an annual favorite event that serves to set the stage for all the excitement to follow. Over the course of five days, two torches will travel through New York State, one route heading through Buffalo and the other through New York City. Along the way, teams will stop at Community Bank branches and sporting clubs before ending in Lake Placid to light the cauldron for the Opening Ceremony on Thursday, January 30 at 6:30 pm

    For a break from the adrenaline pumping events, stop at the Athlete Village for hot chocolate, s’mores, athlete interviews, activities and more. The Village will be open on Friday, January 31 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm and Saturday, February 1 from 12:00 – 7:00 pm.

    When is the Empire State Winter Games?

    The competition will take place from Friday, January 31 to Sunday, February 2, 2025. 

    Where is Empire State Winter Games

    The Games take place across sporting venues in the Adirondacks. They’ll take place at the Olympic Center, James C. Sheffield Speed Skating Rink, Whiteface Mountain, Mt. Van Hoevenberg, Olympic Jumping Complex, Tupper Lake Civic Center, Saranac Lake Civic Center, Dewey Mountain, Mt. Pisgah, Cascade Cross Country Ski Center, Scotts Cobble Nordic Center and Paul Smith’s College.
