There is no doubt that New York offers great value to people of all ages, though one destination is particularly rooted in our state’s identity. Perhaps because of its sheer size and majesty, this picturesque natural beauty attracts around 8 million travelers annually. It sits adjacent to one of America’s most historically innovative cities and against the backdrop of a sprawling Canada. I am of course referring to the city of Niagara. Contrary to what you saw in your cousin’s wedding album, Niagara Falls is not just another stop for the “hop-on-hop-off” crowd. In fact, it is a storied location of unmatched natural beauty, a looking glass on the American spirit throughout the ages, as well as an ever-growing center of commerce for a dynamic community. Truly, and not in looks alone, Niagara has it all. Starting at the DeVeaux Woods State Park, you can enjoy recreational amenities such as picnic facilities, meadow trails and playgrounds. From here, you can make your way towards Whirlpool, another state park, which boasts 109 acres of rapids vistas. If time allows, there are more than enough circuitous trails in Niagara Falls’ larger network of parks to pass a day by.

Niagara Falls, one of the natural wonders of the world, is just a scenic train ride away. On the border of New York State and Ontario where Lake Erie drains into the Niagara River, this dramatic hydraulic phenomenon is actually three massive cascades – American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Horseshoe Falls – at the end of Niagara Gorge. Vacationers have traveled to these famous waterfalls for over a century. Now it’s your turn! Cruise close enough by boat to be engulfed by their roar. Visiting New York’s side of Niagara Falls is easy with Amtrak. Take Amtrak’s Maple Leaf or Empire Service lines all the way to the Greater Niagara region. Niagara Falls Station (NFL) is conveniently located near plenty of fun attractions and is only two miles from Niagara Falls State Park.
