2024 Lake Placid Film Festival
This popular four-day event, held on Nov. 7 -10, screens a variety of cutting-edge films, while also hosting roundtable discussions, parties and events in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains.

Adirondack Film is celebrating its 21st year as the Lake Placid Film Festival returns to the beautiful Adirondacks. This year’s festival features award-winning international films, shorts, and TV pilot competitions and panels featuring esteemed filmmakers. Those behind the screen will share lively discussions about the various aspects of filmmaking, from the birth of an idea to the distribution of a completed film. Enjoy talks from NYWIFT, ACW Catalyst Story Institute and Stockade Works as well as the 2024 Artists in Residence Jacob Kreuger and Jonathan Burkhart.
The festival’s current independent films will include new releases such as: Ghost Cat Anzu, a new animated film, I‘m Still Here from director Walter Salles. Also, enjoy a 20th-anniversary screening of Miracle with U.S. Hockey Gold Medalist Buzz Schneider in attendance. View a full schedule of screenings and panels here.
The festival will kick off with the special anniversary screening of “Miracle” at the Palace Theatre. After that, enjoy screenings of new films and incredible panels for all film enthusiasts. Panel topics range from budgeting your film, the post-production process, “Pitching for Introverts,” writing for TV and more! Panels will take place at High Peaks Resort and screenings at the Palace Theatre.
From 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm, enjoy the Red Carpet Cocktail event at High Peaks Resort. This elegant event has sold out the last three years in a row, so be sure to snag your tickets sooner rather than later! Mingle with colleagues and industry professionals and enjoy some great food and drinks. Celebrity guests will be in conversation with Paul Hardart, Clinical Professor of Marketing at the Stern School of Business at New York University. Tickets for this event are $125 and benefit Adirondack Film.
To end the festival, on Sunday, November 10, there will be a free family screening of Shark Tale for its 20th anniversary!
History of the Lake Placid Film Festival
The Lake Placid Film Festival began with a raging blizzard in 1997 when more than 300 people braved the bad weather to come to the Palace Theatre in Lake Placid for a screening of Atom Egoyan’s new film The Sweet Hereafter. The Adirondack Film Society was born two years later.The mission was broad and included an independent film festival, year-round screenings of independent films, classic films, silent films, and films of local filmmakers.
Over the years, what is now called the Lake Placid Film Festival, has hosted numerous film luminaries, including directors, screenwriters, actors, educators, film critics and others devoted to independent film and diverse and cutting-edge film projects
